Error indicates that IIS is not installed on this machine, aspnet_regiis -i

“error indicates that IIS is not installed on this machine” when running “aspnet_regiis -i” but you do have IIS installed? This happened to me recently on my new laptop that is running Vista 64bit and IIS 7. The issue I had was that IIS 7 was installed yet ASP .NET 2.0 was not installed & not serving pages up properly.

The issue was that I was trying to install the x86 version of ASP .NET 2.0 not the 64 bit version. To do this open up your cmd prompt as an administrator. Click on the start orb in Vista, type in cmd then when it shows up in your menu right click on it and select ‘Run as Administrator’

Once you have your command prompt open you will want to navigate to c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\ Note the Framework64 and run “aspnet_regiis -i” and ASP 2.0 will install correctly for you.
