Rocking out with some new IPhone apps

I finally got around to really tricking out my IPhone yesterday. Over the last 4+ weeks I have only really been taking advantage of the: Texting, Camera, Exchange Integration & Safari.
The IPhone is truly an amazing device; it knocks the socks off my old Black Berry, and any other mobile device I have seen. My number one complaint is battery life, if you use it hard with Wifi on and do mobile browsing and talk on the phone it’s ready for a recharge by 10pm right when you are ready to head out. I have since turned off Wifi and I charge it whenever I get in my car so that has seemed to somewhat address that for me for now.
It really blew me away a couple weeks ago when someone sent me a .docx file and I was in Portland Oregon and needed to review it. I swore at first thinking as a goner, but it opened it no problem. Same with PDFs and any other multimedia I have received to date. I can even listen to voicemails left at the office since they are also emailed to me as .wav files.
I haven’t used the MP3 player yet since I’ve got another Ipod and Ensignia that I use for running and the gym, but I wanted to get my podcasts setup on my phone so it was easier for me to listen to in my car and when I have some down time out and about.
Yesterday I connected the phone up to ITunes and downloaded the 250mb 2.1 version of the firmware update which installed fabulously. After that I downloaded the following applications: - Twitterific – I was using the web based Twitter previously through Safari and it worked great, but this will allow me to attach photos to tweets which is too cool.
- AirMe – Neat app to take a photo and upload it to Flickr/Facebook. Got that wired up and working this morning
- Facebook – Kind of sucks thus far, I prefer just going to Facebook.com on the phone and it serves up a sexy IPhone version. But this app allows you to chat over Facebook.
- Air Sharing – Haven’t wired it up yet but it allows you to access your Iphone as an external wireless hard drive. How hot is that?
- Jott – Take a 15 second dictation / voice recording and then some offshore team will transcribe it and email it to you. Free too.
- Flashlight – Just a white screen to use as a Flashlight in the night
- IM+ - Instant messenger that I have not used yet, it’s getting mixed reviews.
- Labyrinth – Cool app to show off the accelerometer and that of the IPhone. Plus it’s a phone game.
- PocketGuitar – Shred on this mini guitar, has Acoustic, Electric, Ukulele & you can change distortion effects. Pretty neat, but my actual guitar skills have not yet transferred.
- Remote – Control ITunes wirelessly from your phone
- Tap Tap Revenge – Like DDR / Guitar hero but on your phone, has some neat features but I couldn’t get into it.
- Twinkle – Don’t think I need this now, way to post photos to the web
- Urbanspoon – Find out where to eat where you are
- Yelp – Find out what there is to do around you
- Where – Similar to yelp
Next round of downloads for me will probably include an application that will allow me to connect to my computer via VNC and there is a Piano & Drum application that look like they could be entertaining.
On a final note, I used the Android emulator the other day. Cool and all but the IPhone’s interface is still superior. | Comments | Currently, there are no comments. Be the first to post one! Click here to post a comment |
